Kudos to my neighbor Ava DuVernay for the four Golden Globe nominations her film Selma garnered today.

Ava is the first African American woman to be nominated as Best Director for a Drama in Golden Globes history. The film was also nominated for Best Drama, Best Actor, and Best Original Song.

My other neighbor, Angelina Jolie did not fare as well today with her excellent film Unbroken. This inspiring film is about another of one of my neighbors, the late Louis Zamperini who passed away in July at age 97.

As the march continues to both the Golden Globes and Oscars, it seems Selma is well positioned, but I would not yet count out Unbroken in the Oscars race.

For over twenty years I have covered all the award shows, but it is particularly exciting this year to see one of my neighbors recognized for a very important film in Selma.

Catch my coverage of Selma starting today on American Urban Radio Networks with Ava DuVernay and David Oyewola

Over the next two weeks, you can also go to www.aurn.com to see more about Selma and Unbroken, including my interview with Angelina Jolie.
