75th Golden Globe Awards logo2018 is a milestone year for the Globes. It’s the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton and hosted by Seth Meyers. Black ruled the red carpet and Seth wasted no time addressing the elephant in the room with a series of jokes on the sexual harassment crisis in Hollywood.

“Good evening ladies and remaining gentleman.”
“Marijuana is finally allowed and sexual harassment finally isn’t.”
“It’s been years since a white man has been this nervous in Hollywood.”

And he said the Golden Globes will be, “The first time in three months it won’t be terrifying to hear your name read out loud.”

He later did address the elephant in the room by saying, “I think it’s time to address the elephant, not in the room.” His Weinstein joke of the evening. He followed with a Kevin Spacey joke.

Seth then went to actors in the audience to help him tell jokes. He said it’s just more fun. He ended the joke with a kind of awkward exchange with Amy Poehler in the audience.

The first category was Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television and the Golden Globe went to Nicole Kidman for Big Little Lies. Her 4th win.

She began her speech by saying, “Wow, the power of women.” And ended with, “Keith Urban, when my cheek is against yours everything else melts away.”

The next category was Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy and the Golden Globe went to Sam Rockwell for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Carol Burnett and Jennifer Aniston got a long standing ovation when they took the stage to present the category of Best Actresses in a TV Series — Musical or Comedy. The Golden Globe went Rachel Brosnahan for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

The duo also presented for Best Actress in a TV Series – Drama. The Golden Globe went to Elisabeth Moss for The Handmaid’s Tale.

Sterling K. Brown Makes History

Best Actor in a TV Series – Drama was up next. The Golden Globe went to Sterling K. Brown for This Is Us. His first win, but second nomination. The first thing he said was, “Oprah.” He then thanked everyone he could remember and ended by saying he was grateful for the role that could only be played by a Black man. He made history becoming the first Black male actor to win this category.

Roseanne Barr and John Goodman presented the category of Best TV Series – Drama. The Golden Globe went to The Handmaid’s Tale.

Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series – Drama went to Alexander Skarsgard for Big Little Lies.
Skarsgard ended his acceptance speech with, “Nicole I love you. Thank you for making this the greatest experience of my career.”

Mariah Carey and Common presented Best Original Score – Motion Picture and the Golden Globe went to Alexandre Desplat for The Shape of Water.

Kelly Clarkson and Keith Urban teamed up to present the award for Best Original Song. The Golden Globe went to This Is Me, The Greatest Showman.

Shirley MacLaine and Emma Stone Present Best Actor — Comedy

Shirley MacLaine and Emma Stone presented the award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy and the Golden Globe went to James Franco for The Disaster Artist. Franco called  Tommy Wiseau up on stage but pushed him away from the mike when he tried to speak.

Sharon Stone and J.K. Simmons presented the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television. The Golden Globe went to goes to Laura Dern for Big Little Lies.

Amy Poehler and Andy Samberg presented the Best Animated Feature award. The Golden Globe went to Coco.

Simone Garcia Johnson, daughter of Dwayne Johnson was chosen to be the first ambassador of the Golden Globes. Dad was proud.

Allison Janney won for I Tonya. She thanked Steve Rogers, the writer for the role and mentioned Tonya Harding in the audience and she was emotional.

Dynamic Duo Kirk Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones

Kirk Douglas presented with Catherine Zeta-Jones. They got a very long standing ovation along with cheers. She mentioned his role in ending the Hollywood Black List. He tried to speak but was very hard to understand, but he did tell Catherine, “I could never follow you. They presented the award for Best Screen Play to Martin McDonagh for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant presented the award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Golden Globe went to In the Fade, Germany, and France.

Best Performance By an Actor in a Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television went to Actor Ewan McGregor for Fargo.

The Golden Globe for Best TV Series Musical or Comedy went to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Amazon.

Aziz Ansari won the Golden Globe for Master of None in the category Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series — Comedy.

Oprah Raises the Roof at the Golden Globes

Reese Witherspoon presented the Cecil DeMille Award to Oprah Winfrey. Reese told Oprah, “You’ve changed our lives,” just before the video honoring Oprah’s long, varied, incredible and truly significant career.

Oprah took the stage to a cheering standing ovation she had to end by saying, “OK, OK.” She spoke of Sidney Poitier, who also won this award, and the impact he had on her life, as well as becoming the first Black female to win the Globe’s Lifetime Achievement Award, “A lot of little girls are watching as I become the first Black woman to be given the same award.”

She also thanked Gayle and Stedman and said, “Speaking our truth is the most powerful tool that we all have.” She touched on the life of Reece Taylor, sexual assault and harassment and said, “But their time is up.” She got a standing ovation again.

In her final words, she said, “Take us to a time when no one has to say me too again.” She got another standing ovation as she left the stage.

Director Guillermo Del Toro won for The Shape of Water. They tried to play him off with music but he said, “It’s taken 25 years. Give me a minute,” and they did.

The Golden Globe for Best Limited Series or TV Movie went to Big Little Lies. Reese Witherspoon ended their acceptance speech congratulating those who have spoken up about harassment and said, “Time is up. We see you. We hear you and we will tell your stories.”

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy was next and the Golden Globe went to Saoirse Ronan for Lady Bird.

Lady Bird also won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.

Thelma & Louise, Geena Davis, and Susan Sarandon came together again to present the Golden Globe for Best Actor, Motion Picture or Drama. The Golden Globe went to Gary Oldman for The Darkest Hour.

Angelina Jolie and Isabella Oberg presented the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture or Drama and the Golden Globe went to Frances McDormand for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. She thanked The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and got censored several times. She ended with, “The women here tonight are not here for the food. They are here for work.”

Barbara Streisand got the room on their feet when she took the stage. She spoke on the current climate in Hollywood before announcing the winner for the Best Motion Picture, Drama. The Golden Globe went to Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Jimmy Fallon did the 2017 Golden Globes, and Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, and now Seth looks like the NBC SNL crew has the lockdown on the Golden Globes.
