bet hip hop awards 2016 logoThe 10th annual 2016 BET Hip-Hop Awards hosted DJ Khaled was chock-full of the best rappers and superior performances. When DJ Khalid opened the program he started with his rap Holy featuring Betty Wright.

The program was taped in September at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta. The first award was Lyricist of the Year and the BET Hip Hop Award went to Kendrick Lamar for Alright. He ended his acceptance speech with, ““BET I love you all salute.”

Dae Dae came next rolled out in a big chair and performed Wat U Mean and was joined by Big Baby Dram and OT Genesis.

The next award was for Track of The Year Award. Yazz and Cali B announced the nominees. The BET 2016 BET Hip Hop Award went to Remi Ma and Fat Joe for All The Way Up. Her fabulous husband Papoose came out to support her as she spoke about the hard times she has survived and how grateful she was for being able to create All The Way Up.

The rap performance were continuous throughout 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards with multiple video segments showcasing the fluid styles of several of the best rappers from across the country.

DJ Khalid came back and introduced  O.T. Gensis who performed Push It and Cut It. When Sway came out he said we were celebrating and we are at war. He brought out Oswin Benjamin, LockSmth, DJ Revolution, Stic Dead Prez, M-1 Dead Prez, and they ended with fists in the air.

Female rappers Young M.A were up next and performed OOOUUU.

The highlight of the program was Snoop Dogg. Kenderck Lamar introduced the segment that honored Old G Snoop Dogg. After the video highlighting his career, Snoop took the stage to thunderous applause. He had to wait for the audience to quiet down before he could speak. Snoop said he was very sentimental about the honor of receiving the 2016 I Am Hip Hop Award. “I thank BET for all they done for me.”

The next award was Hustler of the Year. The 2016 BET Hip Hop Award went to DJ Khalid. He immediately thanked God.

Next came Kevin Hart playing rapper with Lil Wayne in a rap battle called “What Now.” Of course Lil Wayne’s rap was real and Kevin’s was, well Kevin’s, but he didn’t miss a beat.

TI was the next artist to perform. He took on the Black Lives Matter movement with his spoken word called United We Stand. He’s calling for activists to do more than tweet to make a difference around the issues of today.

Big Tigger was the next presenter for the Best New Hip-Hop Artist Award. The BET award went to Chance the Rapper. Tigger accepted the award on his behalf.

Desiigner took the stage for the final performance of the night. DJ Khalid then wrapped up the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards with a tease of his latest video Do You Mind featuring Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Future, Rick Ross, Augus Alsina, and Jeremih.
